About Magdalena

Magdalena Öttl studied at 2013-2017 at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen (DE) and 2018-2019 at Performact in Torres Vedras (PT). 2017 she has been awarded with the Claasen Tanzpreis. She works as a freelance dancer in Germany and Belgium and performed in creations by Mark Sieczkarek, Jelena Ivanovic, Rainer Behr, Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus and Oona Doherty Works. As a maker she created in cooperation with dance and physical theatre collectives in North-Rhine Westfalia (DE) and collected various experiences within interdisciplinary productions and research formats with musicians (Ensemble uBu, Inventasy by Mouvoir/Stephanie Thiersch, Passages by Aïda Gabriels). 2020 she directed the multimedia performance Elevator for Anaphora in cooperation with Samadhyana company, that premiered in Maschinenhaus Essen (DE). 2020/2021 she has been artist in residence at #KREATIVCAMPUSRUHR powered by e-c-c-e GmbH with It’s not my responsibility to get famous, an artistic research about memes, online communities and shared authorship. In Cooperation with Parini Secondo (IT) and Bienoise (IT) the project resulted in the choreographic template >be me that premiered 2021 and caused further editions with professional and non-professional participants in Germany, Italy, Portugal and Belgium. The most recent collective work Lutinier has been developed 2024 together with Altraste Danza (ES) as a playful frame for improvisation. Öttl is facilitating Atelier Quartier at Ultima Vez and is engaged in the organization of accompany class, a nomadic group offering free training to the freelance dance community BXL at a low stake, researching about what it means to gather, share and train nowadays.
